Paul Boutinot began his search in 1993 for a vineyard site with the potential to produce truly premium wines with a defining character of origin.

The classic sites, which produce naturally balanced grapes such as Cote d'Or, Chablis, Paulliac, Barolo, etc., were either unavailable or prohibitively expensive. It was to take ten years to narrow the search down to a small area, located in Somerset West on the slopes of the Schapenberg overlooking the picturesque False Bay: Waterkloof was born!

Today, Waterkloof produces "honest" wines that wonderfully express the unique characteristics of the Schapenberg terroir. Presented in the series Circumstance, Circle of Life, Waterkloof and False Bay, the estate's wines make the hearts of all wine lovers skip a beat
